Wellness Program
The City of Troy introduces the 2010 Wellness Program.
This program is open to ALL City of Troy employees. Each employee will be able to access an activity sheet from the city website to fill out each week. There are points associated with each activity as well as the frequency allowed for each activity. Each employee who earns 30 or more points will be eligible to win an incentive from our weekly drawing. The weekly drawings will take place at the end of the day Tuesdays and winners will be notified the following day Wednesday. The list of incentives will be sent out each week as well as the previous weeks winners. The activity sheet will be in PDF format which can be filled out on-line then printed and delivered to Karen Massie in the Human Resources Department no later than Tuesdays at noon.
The PDF document is available HERE .
The online form can be filled out and submitted HERE.

The wellness program will begin Tuesday June 15th and ends Tuesday September 14th. If anyone has any questions contact Tim Davis or Robert Love in the Planning & Zoning Division. Good luck to everyone and stay healthy!
Wellness is Fun
AND
Leads to a Healthier YOU

Wellness Program
The mission of the Wellness Program is to encourage ALL City of Troy employees to excel in all areas of physical, mental and emotional wellness by providing opportunities to make and maintain healthy lifestyle choices.
The goals we hope to accomplish through the program include:
* providing resources for the City employees that will better educate, train, and improve their overall physical, mental and emotional wellness.
* reducing PERSONAL insurance costs by increasing the knowledge base of healthier choices that exist and how that affects them, their family, and their co-workers now and well after retirement.
* increasing community among departments by encouraging city-wide participation through Wellness programs and initiatives.
* increasing the "productivity perspective" of City employees by becoming an overall healthier person, which will enable them with the power to work effectively and efficiently.
* provide health and wellness awareness for the employees and their families through aspects of the program.
* encouraging employees to have some fun as a part of the Wellness Program while also benefiting from the educational aspects of the program.
  Elements of the
Wellness Program

Wellness Nurse
A major emphasis of the Wellness Program is the visits of the on-site nurse to City facilities, buildings, and offices. Nurse Candi Dielman is on-site approximately four hours a week, on Thursday afternoons. Her weekly visits include opportunities for blood pressure and pulse checks. Other testing may be available through the wellness nurse, and these will be announced. While specific medical diagnoses are not provided, the nurse’s hours are also an opportunity for employees to discuss general medical and wellness issues.

Flu Shots
Depending on the availability of the flu vaccine, regular full time employees will be able to receive a seasonal flu shot at no charge. Again, depending on availability of the vaccine, the flu shots are offered to part-time staff and spouses at cost. The flu shots are given by the Wellness Nurse on a schedule announced in the early fall of each year.
Brown Bag Lunch Seminars: These are offered on subjects about which employees express interest if speakers can be obtained. Suggested topics for Brown Bag Lunch Seminars can be forwarded to the HR Office or given to the Wellness nurse.
Other Screenings: With medical provider availability, other screening opportunities will be considered to be offered, usually at the cost established by the medical provider. It is noted that some providers require a minimum participation number to offer a screening.

Incentive Program
This is a new Wellness initiative. The objective of the incentive program is to establish employee health and wellness as an important part of employee satisfaction and well-being that is worthy of special recognition at the worksite. On a trial basis, this will be offered June through September. Participants may earn points for participation. Much of this will be on the honor system. More information will be provided prior to the starting time.

It is not the purpose of the Wellness Program to replace elements of the group health insurance plan. Most health screenings and tests should be discussed with your physician and provided through and under the supervision of your physician.

How do I get involved?
It's simple! Just watch for announcements and information about Wellness Events and participate. Encourage your co-workers to participate.
