NOTICE OF OPEN CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION
The following examination for a position in the City of
Troy, Classified Service, will be held Saturday, January 22,
2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Troy Junior High School cafeteria,
556 N. Adams St., Troy, Ohio.
FIREFIGHTER-PARAMEDIC
ENTRY LEVEL
Qualifications: High School diploma or GED; ability to
successfully complete and pass basic firefighting training
and EMT-P certification, and all other required State of
Ohio certifications; ability to demonstrate physical
endurance and agility in adverse working conditions and
operate firefighting equipment. Hiring age for an original
appointment shall be between the ages of eighteen and
thirty-six, and in accordance with all other provisions of
state and federal law.
Residency: to ensure adequate response times to emergencies
and disasters,
employees, as a condition of employment, shall reside either
in Miami
County or in one of the following adjacent counties: Darke,
Shelby,
Champaign, Clark or Montgomery.
Salary: 2011: $44,557.87. Following 6 months satisfactory
service, salary advances to $46,606.82. After 3 years salary
advances to $62,920.10. There is a 1-year probationary
period. This examination is being held to provide an
eligibility list for appointment as firefighter/paramedic to
the Troy Fire Department.
All persons taking this examination who have had military
service may be eligible to obtain an additional 20% of their
passing score. Form DD-214 as proof of service and honorable
discharge must be submitted prior to the start of the
examination. Applicants may receive the following credits
added to their passing score: Level Two Fire Training, full
time course – 10%; EMT-A Basic – 5%; EMT-P Paramedic – 10%.
Proof of current State of Ohio certification of said
training and its successful completion must be submitted
prior to the start of the examination. Maximum credit for
all credits shall be 20%. Those persons certified as a
result of this examination will be subject to a rigid
physical, polygraph, psychological examination, physical
agility test, and drug screening as well as an interview
procedure including a background check.

Office, first floor, City Hall, 100 S. Market St., Troy,
Ohio, or downloaded from our website at http://www.troyohio.gov.
Applications must be filed with the Human Resources Office
no later than January 14, 2011 at 5:00 p.m.
