The 2005 Troy Strawberry Festival Grand Marshal Selection Committee has chosen the Miami County Vietnam Veterans as Grand Marshals of the Strawberry Parade to be held June 4, 2005 in downtown Troy. The selection committee feels it is time to honor those individuals who served in Vietnam and never received the homecoming they so rightly deserved. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of Saigon and the end of the United States involvement in Vietnam. The Troy Strawberry Festival is privileged to host a parade that honors the men and women residing in Miami County who put their lives on the line serving their country. The selection is especially poignant as the theme for this year’s festival is “Cruisin’ the Berry 60’s”. The Grand Marshals will lead the Strawberry Parade either by walking or riding in a vehicle. At the end of the parade route the veterans are cordially invited to watch the parade from a reserved seating area where refreshments will be served.
