NASA Mission to Troy Strawberry Festival a "Go"

With only a few short days left in the countdown, mission control has confirmed a go for a Shuttle launch to Troy, Ohio for one of the premier festivals in the Midwest. And not only a Shuttle launch (via the parade), but also a traveling, interactive exhibit titled Vision for Space Exploration Experience. On June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, NASA's mission will be to reach out to thousands of Strawberry Festival "explorers" to show what it may be like to visit the surfaces of the moon, Mars and destinations beyond!

Yes it's true that NASA representatives will be visiting this year's Troy Strawberry Festival to help salute our many American heroes beginning with Troy's very own Nancy Decker Currie (Colonel, USA, RET.). Nancy will first appear during the Troy Strawberry Festival Parade on Saturday, June 3rd, from 9 a.m. - 11a.m. as she takes orbit in the Space Shuttle as it travels north on Market Street.
Immediately following the parade, a special treat awaits visitors at the festival site. The 53-foot-long Experience will take visitors on a simulated journey to the moon, Mars and beyond.
The visitors will explore several points of interest, including moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and they will kick moon rocks along the way before returning to Earth.
"The Vision for Space Exploration (VSE) Experience exhibit is a fun way to inform people of NASA's plans for space exploration for the next 25 years and the many ways the space program has benefited life on earth," states Richard DeLombard, Exploration Outreach Project Manager, NASA Glenn Research Center.
Nancy Decker Currie will also be on hand at the NASA tent located next to the traveling exhibit Saturday 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm and from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday to sign autographs and to talk to young explorers interested in space discovery.
Eva the Astronaut, provided by NASA Glenn's Visitor Center, will greet visitors with hugs, handshakes and high-fives. Eva is larger than life, standing 8 feet tall. She adapts well to normal Earth gravity, amazing spectators with her agility and grace. Be sure to look for Eva throughout the festival weekend.
NASA experts will be on hand throughout the festival weekend to answer questions and discuss some of the 30,000 technologies used on Earth as a result of NASA's years of research and development.

The Vision for Space Exploration Experience exhibit will be located in the Hobart Arena parking lot (255 Adams St.) and will be open for public visits as follows:

Friday, June 2 - Open from 12 noon until 5 p.m. for public & VIPs.
Saturday, June 3 - Open from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Same hours as the festival.
Sunday, June 4 - Open from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Same hours as the festival.
