April 24, 2009

The City of Troy celebrated Arbor Day 2009, and the 23rd consecutive year of Tree City USA designation.
Two Chinquapin Oak trees were planted in Community Park as a living tribute to Mrs. Gerri Nichols and Mrs. Nancy Fulker for their service and contributions to our community.
Mayor Michael Beamish was joined by members of the Beautification Committee and the Park Department in the dedication ceremony. Students from all the elementary schools participated by providing information about the benefits of trees and in the ceremonial planting of the trees. The schools represented were also presented a book entitled "Are Trees Alive" from the Beautification Committee.

"Each generation take the Earth as trustees. We ought to bequeath to posterity at least as many forests and orchards as we have exhausted and consumed."
