The Troy Police Auxiliary was formally enacted 24 August 1970, by the Council of Troy, Ohio. The Troy Police Auxiliary is authorized up to 25 members and consist of the President (Captain), Vice President (1st Lieutenant), Secretary/Treasurer (2nd Lieutenant), and Sergeant-at-Arms (Sergeant). Auxiliary officers are not commissioned with sworn officer status. Auxiliary officers exist as a support organization to the Troy Police Department and the duties and utilization of such auxiliary members shall include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:

Auxiliary officers assist the police department and its members in activities and service related to police operations. The scope and limitations of authority and operations are set by City Ordinance, Rules, and Regulations set by the Director of Public Service and Safety, and Rules, Regulations and Scope of Operation as determined by the Chief of Police.

Auxiliary members are utilized in directing traffic, crowd control, crime prevention, accompanying and assisting sworn officers on patrol, and special events. They assist at crime scenes with scene security and evidence discovery. The officers also handle clerical, filing data entry as required.

Auxiliary officers receive training in those areas of anticipated activity which are
quasi-law enforcement in nature. Auxiliary officers undergo sidearm and shotgun proficiency testing and instruction in the Policies and Procedures so that they have the knowledge and understanding of weapons use and force policies of this department.

If you are community minded and wants to get more involved in your community or if you are thinking about a career in law enforcement the Troy Police Auxiliary is accepting applications. The following requirements must be met. You have to be 21 or older, no criminal record, be willing to have a complete background investigation, and be willing to work 16 hours a month or more.
