Special Trash
Special trash is collected for residents of the City of Troy the second Tuesday of each month.

Pick-up must be scheduled by calling (937) 335-1914 before noon on Friday prior to the second Tuesday of the month.

The following items are acceptable for collection:

Household appliances:

  1. Washers
  2. Dryers
  3. Small Kitchen appliances
  4. Hot water heaters
  5. Stoves & barbecue grills (tanks removed)
  6. Sinks, toilets, and tubs (no shower surrounds)

Furniture-type items:

  1. Tables (including picnic)
  2. Chairs
  3. Couches
  4. Bed, mattress, and box springs
  5. Televisions and stereos
  6. Outdoor lawn furniture

Chain link fence and posts (concrete must be removed from posts)

Aluminum storm doors and windows (glass must be removed)
Broken glass must be placed in a box marked "broken glass" and placed with the weekly trash collection.

TV antenna and tower sections (broken down to 6-8 foot sections)

Garage door openers

Lawn mowers and lawn care equipment

Outdoor play items:

  1. Swing sets (disassembled)
  2. Slides
  3. Swimming pools (disassembled)

Carpeting and padding (rolled and tied)

Metal lawn sheds (disassembled)

Small dog houses

Bicycles, go-carts, and mini-bikes

 

Items that will not be collected as special trash:

Automotive/truck tires or wheels

Auto/truck parts

Appliances which use freon refrigerant:
Note: Appliances that have had the freon removed by a certified service
and bear the required sticker will be accepted.

  1. Refrigerators
  2. Air conditioners
  3. Dehumidifiers
  4. Freezers

Building/construction materials:

  1. Roofing
  2. Lumber
  3. Drywall
  4. Other building/construction materials

Items in bags or boxes (with the exception of artificial Christmas trees)

Concrete (may be taken to facility on Dye Mill Rd.)

Bricks (may be taken to facility on Dye Mill Rd.)

Rocks (may be taken to facility on Dye Mill Rd.)

Sod (may be taken to facility on Dye Mill Rd.)

Wood and tree stumps (may be taken to the County Transfer Station at 2200 N. Cty. Rd 25A

The following frequently questioned items are not considered "special trash" for residents of the City of Troy and may be disposed of as follows:

 

Transmission Fluid Household amounts go into regular trash
Radiator Coolant Household amounts go into regular trash
Oil (motor or cooking) Household amounts go into regular trash
Paint/ Paint Cans Regular trash...must be dry. Open lids and air dry. May use kitty litter or sawdust to absorb quantity of paint.
Brush Must be cut (3'-4' long; 2" or less in diameter), bundled, and tied. Leave at curb on regular pick-up day. Large quantity or quicker pick-up can be scheduled by calling 335-1914.

Larger sizes not accepted. Please call the County Transfer Station at 440-3488.

Leaves City-wide leaf pick-up in fall. Call 335-1914 for schedule. Schedule will be posted here when available.

Resident can purchase "T-bag" at the Billing Office (first floor of City Hall, 100 South Market Street, Troy), fill bag with leaves, and leave at curb.

No charge leaf dumping at Dye Mill Rd. facility. Open seasonally. During winter, you may borrow the key from the Engineering Office on second floor of City Hall.
