To celebrate the history of the Hobart Arena, new street light pole banners have been installed between Staunton Road and the Adams Street Bridge and near the front of the Hobart Arena. The banners show a sampling of the outstanding performers, entertainment acts, sporting events, and other events that have taken place at the Hobart Arena over the past sixty-seven years.
Troy Mayor Michael Beamish commented: “When I was a young man living in Springfield, I first visited the Hobart Arena as a student athlete. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of persons have attended and enjoyed a variety of events at the Hobart Arena. While it is not possible to have all the performers and events shown on a banner, we hope that seeing those shown will trigger a happy memory for many of our citizens and visitors. These banners highlight some of the rich history of the Hobart Arena. We hope you enjoy looking at them.”
There are plans to install a more detailed time line of Hobart Arena activities and events within the Arena building. The City of Troy is grateful to the assistance of Patrick Kennedy of the Troy-Miami County Public Library and the Troy Local History Library, and members of City staff for the research provided to document many of the Hobart Arena events.
