West Main Update 9/23/2022

Good afternoon and happy Friday. Please see below construction update for the ongoing Troy West Main Construction project.

This week started with the closure of North Elm St at Main St. This two-week closure is required to allow for the installation of the upgraded storm sewer system in this area. The majority of this work is located directly in the travelled roadway section. This condition forced the road closure for the safety of the both the drivers and the crew workers. The depth of the storm sewer pipes and catch basins installed are as deep as 10' in the ground!

In additional to the new storm sewer, work has continued on removing the old curb, sidewalks, and driveways on the North side of Main St, between Elm St and Madison St, this week.

Finding buried history has been an interesting aspect of this construction project. Many types of old roadway pavements have been found during the excavation process. Section of old brick pavers were recently uncovered after being buried for many years. The two photos below show the underground history of the roadway, including old bricks stamped with their production location.

The work for the coming week will be the continuation of work that started this week at North Elm St. Storm sewer work will proceed East towards the Kettering Hospital drive entrance. This drive entrance will remain open this week for hospital access. Additional storm sewer work will extend West towards Cedar St, as well. Noth Elm St is slated to re-open Friday 9/30/22.

We hope you've found these construction updates informational and helpful. Your continued patience and understanding during construction of this important project is very much appreciated.
