The great majority of the work this week was placing 36 inch storm sewer pipes between Elm Street and Adams Street, in front of Kettering Hospital. Just as with all previous storm sewer work, this work will greatly increase capacity, longevity, and efficiency in controlling storm water in this area. The initial stages of the project involves completing underground items.
Starting on Monday, October 17, 2022, new concrete curb and gutter will be constructed between Madison Street and Elm Street. This will be the first, new, visible, above ground, construction item. This new curb will give an indication of the width of the new roadway and where the new sidewalks will be placed just behind the curb. New curb and gutter operations will proceed from Madison Street to Ridge Avenue.
Drivers and residents will see streetlight outages along Main Street between Ridge Avenue and Cherry Street as construction continues in the area. Lighting will be restored in the later stages of the project. The new streetlights cannot be started until the road widening and sidewalks are completed.
