Sister City - Takahashi

The City of Troy first formed a sister city relationship with Takahashi City, Japan, in 1990. In the 1980s, Troy developed now-longstanding relationships with several Japanese businesses that invested in Ohio, including Panasonic, Honda, and F-Tech. These relationships inspired City leaders to seek a sister city relationship with a Japanese community and, with the help of a local professor at Wright State University, the Takahashi-Troy connection was born.

For almost 35 years, the mayors, community leaders, citizens, and students of Troy have exchanged visits and cultivated lasting friendships. Takahashi is always a stop for City and economic development officials on trade missions to Japan, and student exchanges have created lasting connections between youth from the sister cities.

Why Takahashi?

Takahashi is, in many ways, very like Troy, Ohio. A river runs through the heart of Takahashi, and the city is largely surrounded by farmland. In addition to their agricultural heritage, the two cities share a commitment to excellent educational systems and well-supported families. They honor their rich histories, support a wide range of cultural events, and promote outdoor activities—especially bicycling. Additionally, both have thriving industrial and commercial sectors.

Student exchanges:

Troy and Takahashi junior high students have participated in student exchanges for over two decades. Typically, students from Troy and Takahashi travel on alternating years to stay with host families and learn about the government, people, and culture of their sister city. Students travel with adult delegates and typically spend six to ten days connecting with students of the same age. The experience focuses on finding similarities across cultures and languages.

トロイ市は、千九百九十 年に日本の高梁市と初めて姉妹都市関係を結びました。千九百八十 年代には、パナソニック、ホンダ、エフテックなど、オハイオ州に投資したいくつかの日本企業と、現在では長きにわたる関係を築いてきました。これらの関係に触発されて、市のリーダーたちは日本のコミュニティとの姉妹都市関係を模索し、ライト州立大学の地元の教授の助けを借りて、高梁市とトロイ市のつながりが生まれました。

なぜ高梁市？
