[ARCHIVED] Updates to Park and Recreation Master Plan Team

whatsupintroy-default

Over the past several months, City of Troy staff and consultants have collected extensive public feedback to inform the update of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Interest in the future of Troy’s parks has been positively reflected in our focus group sessions, public meetings, and over 860 responses Parks and Recreation Master Plan Survey--even more responses than 2024’s Comprehensive Plan Survey received!

A significant percentage of participants in these conversations expressed the desire for new and improved sports facilities. Areas of particular interest include baseball, softball, football, soccer, and skatepark facilities. To help the City understand our capacity to support more sports facilities, City Council has approved the addition of sports and facility management firm Legacy Sports Group (LSG) to the Parks and Recreation Master Plan project team. American Structurepoint, the consulting group leading our process, recommended LSG to help analyze the market and potential economic impact for improved sports facilities in Troy.

LSG’s Facility Operations Study is estimated to cost $20,000. It will not delay the finalization of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. LSG’s study will be completed in three parts:

  • Phase One – Utilization Assessment: Review sporting events and activities to evaluate current usage and growth potential.
  • Phase Two – Infrastructure Evaluation & Assessment: Assess existing facilities and recommend improvements to fields.
  • Phase Three – Community & Economic Impact: Analyze how improvements could attract local, regional, and national events, while estimating costs and economic benefits.

Mayor Robin Oda said, “We are happy to have LSG come on board and give us a perspective that can be discussed and looked at as we continue to work towards a complete Comprehensive Parks & Recreation Master Plan.  We look forward to hearing from them."
