[ARCHIVED] Miami County United Way launches 211

United Way 211 Troy Ohio

The Miami County United Way has launched a new call service available to all families and individuals in Miami County. By dialing 2-1-1, callers obtain free and confidential information on health and human services resources in our community -- 24 hours per day, and 365 days per year. The Miami County Commissioners helped fund the first two years of the Miami County 211 program.

The 211 specialists can refer callers to the organizations in their local community best equipped to address specific needs like food, shelter, energy assistance, housing, parenting resources, health care, employment, and substance abuse treatment. The 211 operators can also share resources for older adults, persons with disabilities, and others with specialized needs. Resources are available in most languages.

By dialing 2-1-1 anywhere in Miami County -- Troy, Piqua, Tipp City, West Milton, Bradford, Covington, Laura, Potsdam, or surrounding areas -- you will be directed to Miami County 211 operators. Similar programs are available in many parts of Ohio, and across the country -- the goal of these programs is to allow callers to dial in anywhere for health and human services help, in the same way that we call 911 for emergencies.

“211 does more than “patch people through” to agencies. Instead, 211 specialists are trained to identify and address root causes of a client’s problem – and connect them with a wide range of available resources that meet all the underlying needs, not just the one that prompted the call,” said United Way of Miami County CEO, Sean Ford, “211 exemplifies United Way’s fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in Miami County.”
