Troy Police Chief Shawn McKinney and Mayor Robin Oda are pleased to share that Troy Police Captain Ryan Ormberg was among the 254 law enforcement officers to graduate from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on September 12, 2024.
The 291st session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 47 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 26 countries, seven military organizations, and seven federal civilian organizations. Internationally known for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy includes ten rigorous weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend, and usually return to their agencies to service in executive positions.
A total of 55,440 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its special agents and intelligence analysts. FBI Director Christopher Wray delivered remarks at the ceremony.
Police Chief Shawn McKinney stated that the FBI Academy is one of the preeminent law enforcement training courses available in the United States and that the Department will benefit from Captain Ormberg’s expertise in best practices for law enforcement officers.
Captain Ormberg has served 19 years with the Troy Police Department and is currently assigned as the administrative captain. He oversees non-uniformed staff and works in various functions to promote excellence and education for Troy’s police force.

As one of three captains serving directly under our Chief of Police, we applaud his drive for personal excellence, his successful completion of this elite training, and his continued leadership in our Troy Police Department.
