[ARCHIVED] Natural Gas Aggregation

A natural gas aggregation program will be offered to Troy residents and small businesses beginning in October 2025. This new program will allow participants to lock in a fixed gas rate ahead of the typically volatile winter season.

What is an aggregation?

To provide lower energy rates, Troy competitively bids supply rates every three years, negotiating a cost that is available to both residents and small businesses. Residents and small businesses are initially enrolled in the program by default. However, they may opt out at any time. To further increase the buying power, Troy joined with other area communities as part of the Miami Valley Technology and Communications Group (MVTCG), creating a larger aggregation area.

Troy has had an electric aggregation since 2011. The gas aggregation was approved by voters in 2023, but aggregation prices have not been competitive until now.

What happens next?

Eligible residents and small businesses will receive an opt-out notification letter from Archer Energy in early to mid-September. That gives residents two options:

  • Residents and small businesses who want to join the program do not have to do anything; they will be automatically enrolled. Members of the aggregation program will receive one consolidated invoice from CenterPoint Energy with Archer gas supply charges included. If you are currently a CenterPoint Energy customer, your billing process will not change.
  • Residents wishing not to participate can simply call the number listed on the opt-out letter to opt out of the program and remain on default-service supply with CenterPoint Energy.

Will this aggregation lower my gas bill?

The aggregation program offers a fixed price rate of $0.7195 / hundred cubic feet (ccf). This rate is higher than CenterPoint’s Standard Choice Offer for August 2025 rate of $0.5497 / ccf. However, the aggregation offers a fixed rate that will not increase.

The aggregation rate of $0.7195 /ccf will remain in place from October 2025 (November 2025 billing) through May 2027.

If I opt out, can I opt in later?

Residents may leave and rejoin the program at any time, with no early termination or additional fees from Archer Energy or the default-service CenterPoint supply. If you are using a provider other than CenterPoint, check with your provider to learn about any termination fees.
