The following information has been shared by the U.S. EPA regarding a public comment period on proposed cleanup of the West Troy Contaminated Aquifer Site:
Virtual Public Meeting: Wednesday, June 24, 2020
Public Comment Period: June 15 – July 14, 2020
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, working with Ohio EPA, is proposing a cleanup plan for the West Troy Contaminated Aquifer site. The site consists of groundwater, the underground source of fresh water, contaminated with volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. VOCs have been found in site groundwater and in one private water well.
The proposed cleanup plan consists of:
- Injecting microorganisms and an organic carbon food source for the organisms (such as the simple sugar compound dextrose) to break down the contaminants.
- Connecting an affected property to the city of Troy water and removing a private well.
- Placing institutional controls on land and groundwater use.
- Monitoring groundwater and the potential for future vapor intrusion.
U.S. EPA will be accepting comments from the public on the proposed plan from June 15 to July 14.
