[ARCHIVED] Operation Cloverleaf marks 19 years

IMG_30662022 marks the 19th year of Operation Cloverleaf, a business-led volunteer project to beautify Troy’s I-75 interchange on West Main. Founded in 2003 by Troy native and then-Council member Ted Mercer, Operation Cloverleaf provides mowing, tree pruning, shrubbery trimming, fertilization, weed control, and landscape bed mulching for a total area of 18 acres.

Participating companies provide all labor, materials, and equipment annually, with in-kind contributions totaling over $1 million since the program began. Today, eight area landscaping companies contribute to the project.

“Companies donating that amount of time plus fuel and equipment to mow 18 acres each week is unheard of in this challenging economic time. This is another example of ordinary people doing extraordinary things”, Mercer said.

The current member companies that have been involved since the inception are Greentech Lawn and Irrigation; Ever-Green Turf and Landscape; Mercer Group; Andersons Tree Care; Tree Care Inc.; and Quality Lawn, Landscape &  Fence. Groundskeeper Landscape Group joined as a new member this year.

Mercer said, “The owners of these local companies and their staff truly need a big thank you for their service and commitment over these years. They all say this is one way they can give back to their community. Strong companies make strong communities.”

Mayor Robin Oda thanked Operation Cloverleaf for donating their time, talents, and materials for nearly 20 years. “The time, care, and knowledge it takes to create beautiful spaces are certainly appreciated and noticed,” she said. “Operation Cloverleaf has created a beautiful welcome to our city for residents, businesses, and visitors.”

For residents wishing to donate, an account to support Operation Cloverleaf has been established at The Troy Foundation.
