The first phase of Troy’s Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion is nearing completion, and many components are already in use. This $11.8 million initiative was completed, in part, using a $6 million grant from the Ohio BUILDS (Broadband, Utilities, and Infrastructure for Local Development Success) program secured by the City of Troy.
This long-term Capital Improvement Project began in November 2022, and the result is the culmination of two years of planning, research, and construction. Some of the upgrades include
- The replacement of several major components of the treatment plant, some nearly 50 years old and past their planned useful life
- The addition of a third aeration tank to increase plant capacity
- New nutrient removal technology, to help reduce nitrogen and phosphorus more efficiently.
These upgrades will help the plant keep up with increased development and ensure that the Wastewater Treatment Plant continues adhering to Ohio EPA discharge limits. The Wastewater Treatment Plant, with a former capacity of 7 million gallons per day, will now be capable of processing 9 million gallons daily. This expansion also means that Troy's Wastewater Treatment Plant, previously classified by the State of Ohio as a Class III facility, will be a Class IV facility–the highest classification for facilities capable of treating over 7.5 million gallons per day.
Phase Two of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion will replace outdated sludge-handling equipment and is scheduled for completion in 2025. More information on the plant is available at https://troyohio.gov/161/Wastewater-Treatment.
