[ARCHIVED] Downtown façade improvement grant program opens

whatsupintroy-default

The City of Troy and Troy Main Street have created a new façade improvement and building renovation grant program for Troy’s downtown businesses, and applications are now open. Through Revitalize Troy, eligible commercial property owners in Troy’s Central Business District can apply for the reimbursement of matching funds of up to $20,000. Funded through City monies from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), Revitalize Troy is intended to encourage owners to make improvements to the downtown area—keeping downtown Troy vibrant, well-maintained and attractive to residents and visitors.

Eligible projects include exterior improvements such as painting, brickwork, awnings, lighting, signage, or window replacement. Commercial property owners can apply for up to $20,000 or 50 percent of the cost of their project, whichever is less. Applicants must agree to fund 100 percent of the project costs upfront and receive any grant funds as reimbursement, and must provide 50 percent matching funds from another funding sources.

Because the Central Business District is overlaid by Troy’s Historical District, the Troy Planning Commission will need to approve each project’s compliance with historical district design standards. National franchises, government properties, and new construction projects are not eligible.

“Our downtown community is an important asset for Troy, and the City is proud to support these businesses with Revitalize Troy,” said Mayor Robin Oda. “By using American Rescue Plan funding to combat the negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City hopes to support our shops, restaurants and service providers, and to keep downtown beautiful.”
